I Saw Too Many Soldiers Die

An ode to the warriors on this Memorial Day 2021

It’s true.

The single best nursing job I have ever had the honor of doing was as a U.S. Army nurse. I spent quite a bit of time, just after 911, caring for America’s finest. Our heroes.

And I learned something.

Something I wanna share with you today.

Here on Memorial Day in 2021.

There was never any regret.

Whether Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine, they never had last words of how they hated America. Or how they felt wronged, or missed out.

They were always so proud to have worn the flag.

As was I.

Truthfully, I never lost someone close to me. Like a sister, a best friend, or a parent, to war. But deeper truth be told, I lost lots of people close to me. You see, as a nurse, you give a piece of your soul to each hero who enters your world, even if it is for a short time, and for better or worse…

You can’t forget.

Ever.

I’m honestly not quite sure why I feel it so much today.

Maybe because I’m away from home…

Perhaps because I’ve grown up a bit…
