Judging books by the cover…

“A half-read book is a half-finished love affair.” — David Mitchell

This quote is plain dumb, and I’ma ‘bout to explain why.

You see, at first glance this quote seems, looks and feels like something meme-able.

It’s the kinda quote that will make people think of you as super smart, perhaps scholarly.

So yep, at first glance this is a cool quote.

Then why would I call it plain dumb?

Here’s why…

Have you ever seen a movie or known people in real life who are dating the WRONG person? Yet they stay with them hoping things will improve, and deep down you both know it won’t?

That’s what this quote reminds me of.

Prolonging something that you know darn well needs to end NOW…

I’ll be the first to admit that sometimes I buy a book because of it’s cover, and also for some slick words in the back-flap.

You know what I mean so no don’t be judgy.

Like a bad relationship, once we realize that it’s time to ‘cut sling’ and bail, we tell ourselves how noble it would be to suck it up and finish the book.

Feel me?
