No, life isn’t for the making; it’s for the taking

My editor said I made a typo in the title.

I said Nah.

Life is what you take of it. I’m not a fan of “what you make of it.”

It implies that things will unfold, and we get to ‘make’ something of it.

It says that, on some levels, we have no control over things and that we need to bob and weave in accordance with what it tosses our way. I call BS on that, though. And I bet on some level, so do you.

And here’s what I mean.

You have the power to choose how you react to difficult situations

Life is full of difficult situations.

But you already know that.

You may get passed over for a promotion, have a fight with a loved one, or have a piece rejected by an editor. It can be tempting to react with anger, sadness, or frustration. However, it is essential to remember that you can choose how you respond to challenging situations.

While you may be unable to control what happens to you, you can control how you respond.

When you are faced with adversity, try to remember that it is an opportunity to grow…
