My 2 year old daughter looked up, and said this to me…
“Daddy, I’m hungry”…
I’ll never forget that day, over 25 years ago.
You see, it was the day that changed my life forever.
But before that exact moment, it’s essential to know what led up to it, so I hope you’ll read on because I bet you’ve been in that same place.
My wife (at the time) was a full-time college student…
I was waiting tables at a rib joint…
And we had two little girls…
Kate was in diapers and waddling around…her little sis, Kelsey, was too young even to know any different.
We didn’t have much.
But we worked hard.
You see, when Katelyn looked up at me, huge brown eyes, saggy diaper barely held up with that measly little “re-usable” fastener, arms outstretched up to me…her eyes said it all.
Daddy, I’m hungry.
We worked hard. (I already said that, though, didn’t I?). And those words reminded me of what we were building, kinda like stacking up massive logs, ready for that bonfire of success.
At least that’s the story I told myself.
