So Many of Us Choose Our Path Out of Fear (Disguised as Practicality)
Playing it safe is still playing small
There’s a quote that’s been echoing in my head for days now. I can’t shake it. Maybe I’m not supposed to:
“So many of us choose our path out of fear disguised as practicality.”
That line hit like a gut punch. The kind that doesn’t knock the wind out of you, but makes you pause — makes you rethink the quiet choices you’ve been making every day.
The line comes from a talk Jim Carrey gave — yeah, that Jim Carrey. The funny guy. Except in this speech, there’s nothing funny about what he said. It was truth. Clear and unfiltered.
He talked about how fear always shows up. It’s always a player in our lives. But we get to decide how much power it has. We get to choose whether we live from love — or from fear.
And the wild part?
Fear doesn’t always look like fear.
Sometimes it wears a suit and calls itself “responsible.”
Sometimes it uses your kid’s future as an excuse.
Sometimes it pretends to be wise, or “realistic,” or “humble.”
