Go to school, get a great job, maybe start a company all so that you can have less…said no parent ever.
I mean, what parent in their right mind wants their kid to strive for less?
A funny thing happened on the way to becoming an empty nester, and if you’re already there, you’ll likely get it. If you’re about to enter the town of empty nesterville, you’ll undoubtedly be enlightened, and if you’re just starting out, you know, in life and success, then you might think this is 110% looney bin stuff. But hey, you know. It takes all kinds.
A few years ago, my wife and I decided to do the minimal thing.
Our final kid had flown the coop, our oldest was married, so one morning we kind of rolled over and looked at each other, and in a way, we both knew what the other was thinking.
“Do we really need all this stuff?”
Ok. Truth is, I was prolly thinking about pancakes and bacon, but I gotta stay on script here.
Meanwhile…
I also realize that “stuff” is a very relative term, so for this convo, with your permission, I’m going to share what “stuff” meant to us.
