time DOESN’T heal all wounds…

I could see the pain in her eyes even though she was already mildly sedated, and squeezed her hands tight as they wheeled her into surgery.

Major surgery.
(But is there really any other type??)

Truth is, one never truly knows if you’ll ever emerge from a full blown, major procedure, under general anesthesia. And that’s why they have so many darn papers to sign, basically waiving all rights in the event of a mishap.

Even to include acts of God…

My mom was having a double mastectomy due to breast cancer that day, and as we waited in the lobby we heard the news.

Actually…we watched it.

Like millions of you also did.

The worst attack on our country we’ve ever known.

911

My mom was in surgery (she’s totally fine now) when the towers collapsed.

When we were attacked.

And as I write this from 5,000 miles away, proudly serving our country again, I can say this with absolute certainty.

That 19 years later and a world away, it doesn’t hurt any less, because time DOESN’T heal all wounds.
